Out City

City History

On July 16, 1929, the Cushing voters approved the Commission/Manager form of government, thus becoming one of Oklahoma’s first commission/manager governments. The City Commission consists of five commissioners elected by position for three year staggered terms. The City Commission is vested with all the powers of the City of Cushing and retains the services of a City Manager, as Chief Executive Officer, to organize and operate the City on a day-to-day basis. The City Government is a sophisticated, complex industry in itself. The community is served by a full-time police and fire/EMT ambulance service. Emergency calls are handled through the City’s 911 emergency system. The City’s fire insurance rating is a Class 5. The City generates and distributes its own electrical service.
